Global Entry App Changing September 15, 2026 | What Travelers Need to Know

If you use Global Entry when returning to the United States, there is an important change coming that you should know about before your next international trip.

Beginning September 15, 2026, the current Global Entry mobile app will stop working and will be replaced by a new Trusted Traveler mobile app from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Before you worry: Global Entry itself is not going away.

Your Global Entry membership remains valid, and you do not need to reapply because of this change. What's changing is the mobile app travelers can use to help streamline the international arrival process.

Here's what travelers need to know.

What Is Changing With the Global Entry App?

CBP currently offers two different mobile apps related to its Trusted Traveler Programs:

  • The Global Entry mobile app, which eligible Global Entry members can use for mobile arrival processing at participating airports.

  • The Trusted Traveler Programs mobile app, which provides access to certain membership, application and account functions.

On September 15, 2026, both existing apps are scheduled to stop functioning.

They will be replaced by a single Trusted Traveler mobile app that brings supported services together in one place.

The new app will support CBP's major Trusted Traveler Programs, including:

  • Global Entry

  • NEXUS

  • SENTRI

  • FAST

The idea is to simplify things by giving travelers one app instead of maintaining separate apps for different functions.

Do I Need to Reapply for Global Entry?

No.

If you already have Global Entry, the app change does not affect your membership.

According to CBP, existing members will not need to submit another application or create a new account simply because the mobile apps are changing.

Your existing login credentials will work with the new app, and CBP says your profile and membership information will transfer to the new system.

In other words, this is an app change—not a change to your Global Entry status.

What Should Global Entry Members Do?

If you currently use the Global Entry mobile app, make a note of the September 15 transition date.

Once the new Trusted Traveler app becomes available, download the official CBP app and sign in using your existing credentials.

After signing in, it's a good idea to check your profile and make sure your membership information appears correctly.

Most importantly, don't wait until you're standing in the international arrivals area after a long flight to discover that the old app no longer works.

If you're traveling internationally on or shortly after September 15, checking the app before you leave home could save you some unnecessary frustration when you return.

What If I Don't Use the Global Entry App?

You may not need to do anything.

Many Global Entry members don't use the mobile app at all. Instead, they follow the Global Entry signs upon arrival and use the kiosk, portal or other processing method available at that airport.

The September 15 change concerns the mobile applications, not the Global Entry program itself.

If you normally use a Global Entry kiosk or portal rather than your phone, continue following CBP's instructions at your arrival airport.

Will Mobile Global Entry Still Be Available?

Yes. CBP says mobile arrival processing will continue through the new Trusted Traveler app, although availability will still depend on the traveler's eligibility and location.

Under the current mobile process, eligible Global Entry members at participating airports can use their phone as part of the arrival process rather than relying solely on a stationary kiosk or portal.

The important thing to remember is that having the app does not necessarily mean mobile processing is available at every airport or border crossing.

Travelers should also continue carrying their passport and any other documents required for international travel. An app does not replace your required travel documents or CBP's inspection process.

Is Mobile Passport Control Going Away Too?

No. Mobile Passport Control is different.

This is an important distinction because CBP operates several travel-related mobile apps.

Mobile Passport Control (MPC) is a separate CBP program and app. The September 15 announcement concerns the Global Entry mobile app and Trusted Traveler Programs mobile app.

Mobile Passport Control does not require Global Entry membership and has different eligibility and processing rules.

So if you currently use Mobile Passport Control, don't confuse this announcement with a cancellation of that program.

What About TSA PreCheck?

The app change also does not replace your Known Traveler Number or change how TSA PreCheck works.

Global Entry and TSA PreCheck serve different purposes.

Global Entry is primarily designed to expedite the U.S. customs and immigration process for approved travelers returning from international destinations.

TSA PreCheck is designed to expedite security screening before eligible flights.

Global Entry members generally receive TSA PreCheck eligibility as part of their membership, but your Known Traveler Number still needs to be associated with your airline reservation for TSA PreCheck benefits to appear on your boarding pass.

Changing the Global Entry app doesn't change that process.

Be Careful When Downloading the New App

Whenever a government agency introduces a new app, travelers should be cautious about look-alike applications and websites.

Global Entry accounts contain sensitive personal information, so don't simply search an app store and assume the first result is legitimate.

Use CBP.gov or CBP's official Trusted Traveler Programs information to locate the correct application, and verify the app and publisher before entering your login information.

You should never have to purchase a new Global Entry membership simply because the app is changing.

What If the New App Doesn't Work When I Arrive?

An app problem does not necessarily mean there's a problem with your Global Entry membership.

If you cannot use mobile processing when you arrive, follow the Global Entry signs and instructions provided by CBP at that airport. Depending on the location, another Global Entry processing option may be available.

And remember: keep your passport accessible.

Technology can make international travel easier, but your phone should never be your only plan for navigating immigration and customs.

Quick Checklist for Global Entry Members

If you use Global Entry, here's what we recommend:

  1. Remember September 15, 2026. The current Global Entry mobile app is being retired.

  2. Download the new Trusted Traveler app from an official CBP source once it becomes available.

  3. Use your existing credentials. You shouldn't need to create a new account.

  4. Verify your membership information after signing into the new app.

  5. Don't reapply for Global Entry simply because the app changed.

  6. Check whether mobile arrival processing is available at the airport where you'll clear U.S. Customs.

  7. Keep your passport and required travel documents with you.

  8. Watch for fake or look-alike apps and use official CBP sources.
